Ben Enwonwu, Life and Times

21 November 2008
The Ben Enwonwu Foundation presents Ben Enwonwu, Life and Times, an exhibition of remarkable black-and-white photographs opening at the Foundation’s Omenka Gallery on November 21, 2008. His Excellency, Robert Scott Dewar CMG, the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, will open the event.

The exhibition will showcase carefully selected pictures from Enwonwu’s diverse photographic library that illustrate his private, public and most especially, his professional life. It will also include some drawings, paintings and sculptures and give a rare opportunity to follow Enwonwu’s career step-by-step from his student days at the Slade to those defining moments that shaped his brilliant career.

The event will also offer the public a deeper understanding of his working methods and a rare glimpse into his studio and the world he lived in. It also features many official portraits and photographs with important people he made friends with in his lifetime. Also on display are medals and certificates of honour, newspaper clippings, and personal effects including his paintbrushes and sculpting tools.

The Ben Enwonwu Foundation is proud to support this show and through exhibitions, education and debate continues to encourage the creation, enjoyment and appreciation of modern and contemporary art in Africa.
