From September 24 to October 8, 2010, Omenka Gallery of The Ben Enwonwu Foundation will present Fragments, an exhibition of paintings by Sam Ebohon.
Ebohon’s art in the past fifteen years has developed into an impressive visual metaphor and singles him out as one of the more recognizable names in Nigerian contemporary art. He adopts an uncluttered composition, distinctive as a result of his large brush strokes. His works are characterized by criss-cross linear strokes, which tend to abstract his paintings with refreshingly new intensity and boldness as colour and shape are reduced to bare essentials.
“For the show, I decided to reach more into the depth of the viewer’s mind and intellect, in the hope that my works will not only be pleasing to look at but will add value to their collection and most of all, touch a part of their existence as men.”
Ebohon takes advantage of bright and expressive colours in his paintings. He is bold with emotions and his colourful brushstrokes create a three-dimensional cubist effect in his paintings.
Sam Ebohon has exhibited extensively in Nigeria and is a member of both the Society of Nigerian Artists and The Guild of Professional Fine Artists of Nigeria.
